The Saracen Joust, the medieval soul of Arezzo
The exhibition ‘The Colours of the Joust’ is an interactive museum created in 2016 and dedicated to the Saracen Joust, a traditional knightly tournament that still brings the city of Arezzo back to the splendour of its most flourishing Middle Ages.
The Saracen Joust is held twice a year in Piazza Grande. The event has medieval origins and pits four neighbourhoods against each other to compete for the Lancia d’Oro. In modern times it has been held annually since 1931.
The museum, set up on the ground floor of Palazzo Comunale, tells the story and the characters that make the re-enactment unique through original clothes and objects, digital and interactive technologies, such as immersive projections and information touch screens, virtual reality and augmented reality.
An immersive museum tour, capable of bringing the public into the atmosphere of Piazza Grande where, on the day of the re-enactment, amidst the blare of trumpets, rolls of drums, and flag acrobatics, a procession of more than four hundred figures turns back the hands of time.
A colourful universe that comes to life thanks to this interactive experience that takes the visitor into a unique dimension, full of emotion, to discover the secrets of the tournament that more than any other reflects the true spirit of Arezzo and its inhabitants.
